LMS Error Message – “The Draw amount may have exceeded budget limit…batch aborted”

How to Troubleshoot and respond to issues with the specific LMS Error Message “The Draw amount may have exceeded budget limit…batch aborted"

Primary Department Supported: Servicing

Super Powers Needed? - NO

Developers Support Needed? - NO

Context and Common Situations

  • This error typically appears when a requester attempts to process a draw: “The draw amount may have exceeded the budget limit. The transaction ended in the trigger. The batch has been aborted.”
  • This usually indicates issues within the uploaded budget file, most often caused by:
    • Users typing values directly into cells (which correctly limits entries to two decimal places), and/or
    • Users copying and pasting values from another spreadsheet, which may introduce fractional pennies (extra digits beyond two decimals).
  • These hidden digits cause the budget totals to become inaccurate and trigger the draw error.

Important Considerations & Best Practices

  • Download the existing Budget and Inspect each cell carefully: Fractional penny values are not visible in the cell, but are visible in the formula bar.
  • Always review the full budget values before attempting a fix.
  • Corrections must be made at the source file level, then reuploaded – This can be done by the Servicing Team

Instructions:

Locate and Review the Existing Budget

From the LMS menu,

  1. Select Loans → Loan Details → Budget
  2. Click to open the details of the property whose budget you need to review.
  3. Click the Download button to export the current budget file.
  4. Open the downloaded spreadsheet.
  5. Click into each budget cell.
  6. Review the formula bar to confirm the displayed number matches the actual stored value.
  • There should be no extra digits beyond two decimals.
  • Identify any cells containing fractional pennies or inconsistent formatting.
Advise the Business/ Ticket Requester

Advise the requester or business partner to complete the following steps:

  1. Return the budget file to the individual coordinating with the borrower.
  2. Have them work with the borrower to confirm the correct penny amounts for each budget line item.
  3. Update the budget file with exact two‑decimal‑place values only.
  4. Re‑upload the corrected budget to LMS.
